London Communicators - Meeting Report - Monday 12th April 2010
Best Table Topic: Sam Lingawi
Best Evaluator: Michael Smith
Best Speaker: Sheri Lim
Different from previous events, there were some unexpected issues with initial preparation of this meeting. However, our members pulled it off by setting up the meeting perfectly in just five minutes. What a record! So we would like to thank you all for your efforts to start the meeting smoothly and on time.
The first part of the meeting was inspired with the beauty of London along the river Thames. Brilliantly presented by Simone Hauser, 8 volunteer speakers including members and guests painted beautiful pictures of scenery, leisure activities and interesting future investments along the river and Tower Bridge. It was good fun and taking part in Table Topics session is "addictive", as some people might put it.
Guest Sam Lingawi was voted Best TT speaker for his refusal to sell Tower Bridge.
Chafic Badr was masterly in his Table Topic Evaluation in which he managed to CRC everyone with much helpful advice.
More surprises came in with the high quality prepared speeches. The audience was dazzled by the lively entertainment of one-day Disney-Land adventure in America with Esther Zheng in just over 5 minutes. Then we were struck by the meaningful presentation "What's that Got to Do with the Price of Fish?" by Sheri Lim. It was a clever story told that make us think twice about how our desire for cheap products could impose a hidden price on the textile workers in poor countries, or the cruel fishing methods used for cheap tinned tuna. Finally, we not only learnt to avoid "Coeliac Disease" with a healthy lifestyle, but also sampled the delicious freshly made Almond Cake as part of a Gluten free diet. Yes, it was a masterpiece performance delivered by a master chef Jilly Shaul.
The Speech evaluators were Jakub Pieczonka for Esther, Paul Adams for Sheri and Michael Smith whose evaluation of Jilly's speech was voted Best Evaluation.
To sum up, we proudly welcomed Sue Warner, one of the club founders, as General Evaluator. Her evaluation of the entire meeting had excellent advice for all the officers and evaluators.
Again, it was another wonderful night with supportive feedback and new things to learn for everyone.
